Cement and Concrete Workers Training and Education Fund is proud to recognize Gilbert as the
Apprentice of the Day. Gilbert came to us with work experience in general construction. The skills he
gained working general construction made him stand out in our apprentice agility test and we
immediately knew he would be a good fit for our apprenticeship program. Although Gilbert came to us
having a variety of skills, he admits the speed at which we work was a great challenge. He also finds
working at this pace in the cold to be much tougher than working in the heat. Of all the tasks performed
as an apprentice, Gilbert enjoys being on the deck gang the most. Gilbert’s favorite course was Hoisting
& Rigging where he learned hand and voice signals along with safe rigging practices. Gilbert expressed
that being an apprentice with Cement and Concrete Workers has provided financial stability and a
better life for his children.
Apprentice Coordinator Frank Sturiano praised Gilbert for always making the apprentice program a
priority. He is always on time, never absent, and has attended every rally since he has been an
apprentice. Frank also went on to elaborate how Gilbert maintains a flawless Apprentice Training Record
which is used to track progress through the program, and is something many apprentices struggle
maintaining. Gilberts foreman described him as a hard worker, very dependable, and always willing to
Apprentices like Gilbert are what makes our program so successful. Thank you for all your hard work!
